During a press conference as the 2023-24 season comes to a close, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis made a subtle criticism of striker Victor Osimhen.
De Laurentiis hinted that Osimhen’s frequent illnesses have prevented him from playing in more than half of the club’s games.
As the most expensive player for Napoli, Osimhen has been sidelined in numerous matches this season due to fitness concerns.
His availability for the upcoming game against Lecce remains uncertain, as he has already missed sixteen games this season due to fitness issues.
“You can’t force coaches to train a club or you can’t make sure that your first striker scores twenty-eight goals and that he is not ill and that perhaps he participated in 50% of the matches he should have played,” De Laurentiis told reporters.
“I collect everything about myself. That’s fine, but I mean, at a certain point, I also send something back to the sender.”
