Rt. Hon. Elvert Ekom Ayambem has been removed from his position as the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly due to accusations of financial misconduct.
The impeachment occurred on Wednesday with the support of 17 members of the Assembly.
The motion for Ayambem’s impeachment was initiated by Hon. Effiom Ekarika and seconded by Hon. Omang Charles Omang. Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, who was elected as Speaker in June 2023, represents Ikom 2 State Constituency.
His term has been abruptly terminated as a result of the serious allegations against him.
