After taking a year off from football, former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has officially joined Fiorentina.
The 33-year-old Spaniard has signed a one-year contract with the Serie A club, with the option for an additional season.
De Gea, who previously earned £375,000 per week at Old Trafford, has reportedly taken a significant pay cut to play for Fiorentina.
De Gea’s move to Fiorentina comes after his release from Manchester United in the summer of 2023, following the end of his contract.
This marked the end of his 12-year tenure at the club, during which he made 545 appearances and won multiple trophies, including the Premier League, FA Cup, and two League Cups.
Despite interest from other clubs such as Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, De Gea remained without a team for the entire 2023/24 season.
He initially joined Manchester United in 2011 after being signed by Sir Alex Ferguson from Atletico Madrid, quickly becoming the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.
