JUST IN: Explosion rocks APP secretariat in Rivers

A tense atmosphere filled the air as an explosion rocked the Action People’s Party secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State’s capital, along the GRA axis. The incident took place on the early morning of Monday, August 12, 2024.

The perpetrators reportedly threw what appeared to be dynamite into the building, causing damage to windows, doors, and other party property. The blast also affected the ceiling and fittings within the secretariat, sparking panic among the party’s leadership and members.

This incident occurred amidst rumors of State Governor Siminalayi Fubara planning to switch allegiance to the APP, following allegations of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) being taken over by his predecessor and former political mentor, Nyesom Wike.

A member of the party who gave his name simply as Chimene said: “Yes, I’m a member of the APP. I was informed of the attack about 3am today.

“This is politically motivated and there is no two ways about it. They know that the APP is a fast growing political party in the state. We call on the police to investigate this and arrest the culprits. “
