Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool has responded to claims that his attacking prowess overshadows his defensive ability.
The 25-year-old, who has transitioned from right back to a more versatile, quasi-midfielder role, acknowledged the attention surrounding his defensive performances but defended his recent improvements.
“That perception was perhaps harsh,” Alexander-Arnold said, stating Liverpool’s strong defensive start to the season.
“We’ve had four out of five clean sheets. That is exceptional from a backline,” he added.
Alexander-Arnold revealed that part of his defensive growth stems from working closely with new Liverpool manager Arne Slot.
“We agreed that he will be harsh on me. Any time an attacker gets past me, he will call it out,” he explained.
