Senate screens Kekere-Ekun for new CJN role

The Senate is currently screening Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun for confirmation as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN.

Kekere-Ekun has been serving as CJN in an acting capacity since August, taking over after the retirement of Olukayode Ariwoola.

During the screening process on Wednesday, Kekere-Ekun was accompanied by other justices and her family members.

President Bola Tinubu recently wrote to the Senate, requesting that they screen and confirm Kekere-Ekun as the CJN, just 24 hours prior to the commencement of the screening.

Tinubu had in a letter addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio said, “I have the honour to forward the nomination of Honourable Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun CON for confirmation as CJN.

“While it is my hope that this request will receive the expeditious consideration and confirmation of the senate, please, accept the distinguished senate president the assurances of my highest consideration and personal regards.”
