The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially proclaimed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the victor of the gubernatorial election held on Saturday in Ondo State.
Aiyedatiwa was proclaimed the winner subsequent to securing the highest number of votes cast during the election.
The incumbent governor faced competition from Ajayi Agboola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olorunfemi Festus of the Labour Party (LP), and Abbas Mimiko of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), among other candidates, in the election conducted on Saturday.
During the announcement of the results in Akure, the state capital, INEC’s Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, Professor Akinwumi Olayemi Durotimi, stated that Aiyedatiwa garnered a total of 366,781 votes, while Ajayi secured 117,845 votes and the Labour Party received 1,162 votes.
