After 30 years of producing blockbuster shows, including Date My Family, Our Perfect Wedding, and Married at First Sight Mzansi, media mogul Basetsana Kumalo has announced her resignation as CEO of Connect TV.

Kumalo, who co-founded and led Connect TV, announced on her social media pages that she will take over the keys to Kopano Cowen, a bright producer she has mentored for a decade. She reflected on her journey and praised Cowen’s accomplishments.

“Our core mission at Connect TV is to create local content that resonates with our audiences. Our mission is to entertain but also to educate through the genres we’ve chosen,” Kumalo shared. “More importantly, our mission is to make every viewer feel that they too are part of the story.”

Kumalo praised Cowen as “incredible, smart, talented, and creative,” adding that she believes Cowen will bring her own strategic vision to the business.

On social media, Kumalo expressed her pride:

“I have always believed in mentoring and seeing young women come to their full potential and fulfill their dreams and destinies. Kopano, I am so proud of you. Your work ethic is impeccable, your astute mind is laudable, and your passion for television and content creation is inspiring. I know you are going to take Connect Channel to new levels of success.”

Cowen’s journey to the top is inspiring. She holds an LLB degree and began her career as a production intern before becoming an executive producer at Connect TV.
