The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, has declared that all public polytechnics nationwide will be closed down due to the Federal Government’s failure to meet their demands.
The Chairman of ASUP at Kaduna Polytechnic, Comrade Abubakar J. Abdullahi, stated to reporters that the union will start an indefinite strike on December 2nd.
This decision comes after the union issued a 15-day ultimatum to the FG on October 6th, listing critical demands necessary for addressing challenges in polytechnics.
Despite this, the federal government has yet to address these issues, including the release of the second tranche of the NEEDS Assessment Intervention fund, the immediate implementation of the approved salary review, and the payment of accrued arrears.
He however, said, “Regrettably, as we passed the deadline of this ultimatum, we are yet to see the necessary actions from the Federal Government to address these pressing demands.
“The silence and inaction have left us with no option but to consider the possibility of a total shutdown of our institutions, on December 2nd, 2024, should our concerns remain unaddressed.”
