Famous Ghanaian actor-turned-politician John Dumelo has been named the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency election winner.
Dumelo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) defeated the incumbent, Lydia Alhassan of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), in Ghana’s parliamentary election on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
He won with 40,561 votes, while Lydia Alhassan received 27,377.
Dumelo has made a big return after narrowly losing the same seat to Alhassan in the 2020 elections.
The actor began his acting career in 1991 while still in school and has acted in a number of Gollywood and Nollywood films, achieving significant fame before entering politics.
