Popular singer Timi Dakolo has disclosed the story of how he encountered his wife, Busola.
The singer of the song ‘Iyawo mi’ mentioned that they met in church, emphasizing that she was not initially open to a romantic relationship with him, but he persevered.
He shared that she used to feel ashamed when he would drive her around in the branded Picanto he won from the first season of Idols West Africa in 2007.
Speaking in a recent interview with Pulse, Dakolo said, “I met my wife in the church. I went to her and asked her to be my date for a ball. She gave me her number but wasn’t picking up the phone when I called. I kept going to the area hoping to see her again. Then I saw her one day and I asked her why was she not picking my calls and she said her phone got stolen.
“I sympathised with her and we became friends. I started developing feelings for her and she wanted to friend-zone me but I refused. I suffered to win her love. I was taking her to work to and fro. At one time, she used to be embarrassed whenever I picked her up with the branded Picanto I won from Nigerian Idols. I said, ‘Okay, don’t worry. I will shock you. Don’t look down on me.’ And I did.”
Dakolo got married to Busola in 2012 and since then they’ve welcomed three children together.
