Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has ordered his team to spend Christmas night at the Etihad Campus training center in an effort to address their recent decline in performance.
The Premier League champions will face Everton at 12:30 pm on Boxing Day, hoping to break a streak of just one win in their last 12 matches.
Despite it being the holiday season, the players will stick to their usual routine of staying together the night before a home game.
After spending Christmas morning with their families, the team will regroup for an evening training session and overnight stay at the training ground.
“We train today (Tuesday), we train tomorrow (Wednesday) night, we will stay over here, and we are going to play on Boxing Day,” Guardiola said.
When asked whether his players might mind spending Christmas night at the training ground, the Spaniard replied bluntly, “Hopefully, they want to be here because it’s our job.”
