Nigerian singer Joeboy, born Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, has fired back at his music critics. On social media, some have labeled his music as “middling.”
However, in a recent segment of the ‘Backstage Banter’ podcast, Joeboy defended himself, claiming that there is nothing mediocre about his work. He suggested that many of his detractors may be projecting their own unhappiness onto his music.
“There is nothing ‘mid’ about my existence. The fact that I have been able to get so far at such a young age in my career and still have my head on my shoulders is not ‘mid’ in any way.
“I also feel like the people criticizing me are generally not happy with life. Because if you’re genuinely happy with your life, you would not pick up your phone and start attacking somebody. What exactly is ‘mid’? I think it was just a word that got too popular, and people just started using it,” he said.
