“My father screwed up” – Clarence Peters Opens Up on Father’s Mistakes and How They Affected Him

Clarence Peters Opens Up on Father’s Mistakes and How They Affected Him

Renowned Nigerian filmmaker and music video director Clarence Peters has revealed why he consciously avoids following in his father’s footsteps.

Speaking on the WithChude podcast with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Clarence discussed the impact of his father, legendary musician Sir Shina Peters, on his personal and romantic relationships.Shina Peters

Clarence candidly admitted that his father’s past mistakes—especially in how he treated women—left a lasting impression on him. He revealed that his mother, veteran actress Clarion Chukwura, suffered professionally and emotionally due to his father and colleagues’ actions.

“My dad screwed up,” Clarence stated bluntly. “And saying ‘screwed up’ is putting it lightly because his colleagues blackballed my mum. She was already dealing with a lot of trauma from her past, and that only made things worse.”

Clarence also reflected on how time and age have changed his father’s perspective. He shared that Shina Peters now acknowledges his past mistakes and focuses on seeking forgiveness.Clarence Peters

“My mum told me recently that he has lived the life—been with women, driven amazing cars, stayed in the best hotels, had money. Now, he is approaching 70, and all he can do is pray to God for forgiveness. That’s all he has left.”

Despite his efforts to avoid repeating his father’s missteps, Clarence admitted that he has made some of the same mistakes himself.

“One of my greatest fears was becoming like my father when it comes to how I treat the opposite sex. I’ve been a version of that, so I can’t judge him. I would like to, but I’m in no position to.”

Clarence’s heartfelt revelation sheds light on the generational effects of past actions and his conscious effort to break the cycle.
