Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to Face Senate Ethics Committee Over Seating Dispute

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is set to appear before the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions following a heated dispute over seating arrangements in the chamber last week.

The committee, chaired by Senator Neda Imaseun, has been given two weeks to investigate the matter and submit its findings.

The decision to refer the issue to the committee was made after a voice vote on Tuesday as lawmakers revisited the altercation between Akpoti-Uduaghan and the Senate leadership. Senators stressed the importance of maintaining decorum and adhering to parliamentary rules to preserve order in the chamber.

Senate spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, raised a motion under Senate Orders 1(b) and 10, describing Akpoti-Uduaghan’s actions as “extreme intransigence.”

He noted that the controversy had dominated media discussions and had forced him to address public concerns about the 10th Senate’s image.

He emphasized that the Senate is a place for lawmaking and oversight, not a platform for content creation, urging leadership to enforce discipline where necessary.
