Music executive Soso Soberekon has shared the story of how Iyanya was discovered by Kcee in Calabar, Cross River State, and how Kcee played a pivotal role in his journey to success.
Soberekon, a former music producer and Kcee’s ex-manager, revealed this during a live chat with Daddy Freeze, where he even had KCee confirm the story over the phone.
According to Soberekon, Iyanya was hosting a karaoke show in Calabar when KCee noticed him, approached him, and offered to take him to Lagos to kickstart his music career.
He recalled:
“We had to meet his parents for approval before he could travel with us.
We were already at the airport when he called to say his parents had finally agreed because they initially refused.”
Soso Soberekon further disclosed that after winning Project Fame West Africa in 2008, Iyanya lived in KCee’s house for four years, sleeping on the couch due to limited space. He explained:

“He slept on the couch for four years because there was no extra room at the time. KCee’s family was living in the house, so the only available space was the couch, he wrote two songs for Kcee Presh then and both were produced by me.”
This opportunity led Iyanya to achieve fame with his hit song ‘Kukere,’ establishing himself as one of Nigeria’s most prominent music artists.
In 2023, Iyanya recounted a similar version of his rise to fame story, giving credit to KCee for his support along the way.
