Former Governor of Abia State and current Senator representing Abia North in the National Assembly, Senator Orji Kalu, posits that the South East region ought to harness the advantages that arise from being integrated into the central political framework.
In a statement disseminated via his official Facebook platform, Orji Kalu remarked that President Bola Tinubu expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that he garnered merely 4% of the total votes in Abia State during the 2023 Presidential election.
He articulated that the President’s achievement of a mere 4% in the entirety of Abia State constitutes a concerning result, especially in light of the prominent figures affiliated with the APC who participated in the electoral process within the state.
Orji Kalu urged members of the APC to consolidate their efforts and concentrate on securing electoral success for the party in Abia in the upcoming 2027 elections.
The Senator representing Abia North indicated that the stakeholders’ assembly he orchestrated at his residence in Abuja was intended to mobilize the support of Abia APC members for the party and to promote solidarity among APC affiliates, asserting that Governor Otti was not included in the discussions.
Orji Kalu utilized this statement to elucidate that he refrained from criticizing Governor Alex Otti or his administration, emphasizing that he traditionally abstains from publicly addressing the performance of his successors, while reiterating that the electorate possesses the ultimate authority to determine the fate of political leaders.
“For example in 2019 when I joined the APC, President Buhari made 68% in our constituency but President Tinubu came back to make only only 4% in the entire Abia in 2023, he was not happy with the political numbers of Abia.
“He has a friend like me and he has other people that are his friends and we can only make 4%. Even me I can’t even believe it.
“The South East as a whole has to belong where other Nigerians are sitting”, Kalu said.
