The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso, has stated that Nigerians are not enthusiastic readers.
He made this remark while urging citizens to pay more attention to significant economic policy documents, such as the Nigeria Development Update (NDU) released by the World Bank.
Cardoso made the comments during the launch of the May edition of the NDU in Abuja on Monday.
“I think it’s a very useful document, and I really do want to commend the World Bank for taking the time and the effort to put this out every six months; very useful.
“However, I do feel that Nigerians perhaps don’t read enough. They don’t take advantage of, and policymakers by extension, such useful analysis, which is readily available,” he said.
He emphasized that the Central Bank serves as the anchor of Nigeria’s economic stability.
“Price stability, financial stability—those are very key areas that we ensure that we are monitoring and ensure that we get ahead of,” he added.
The World Bank has projected Nigeria’s economy to grow at a rate of 3.4 percent in 2024.
