President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his dedication to national development and unity, stating that he remains focused on making the right decisions for Nigeria, regardless of public criticism.
Delivering Tinubu’s message at the launch of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido’s autobiography, Being True to Myself, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, emphasized the President’s commitment to political inclusivity and national cohesion.
The event, held at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja, gathered notable political figures from across the country.
Tinubu, who was represented as the Grand Guest, commended Lamido’s contribution to Nigeria’s democratic journey, describing the autobiography as a significant addition to the nation’s political literature.
“This is more than a book launch,” Idris said on behalf of the President. “It is the celebration of a life defined by courage, consistency, and commitment to democratic ideals. Alhaji Sule Lamido, though a staunch member of the political opposition and often a critic of the Tinubu administration, remains one of the strong pillars of Nigeria’s political evolution.”
Tinubu acknowledged Lamido’s history of challenging various administrations—including his own—but admired his unwavering commitment to personal beliefs and principles.
He remarked that the book’s title aptly reflects Lamido’s straightforward and principled approach to politics.
He reiterated that in a vibrant democracy, opposition should be viewed not as antagonism but as a necessary exchange of ideas.
“Every citizen, regardless of party affiliation, has a seat at the table of national discourse,” Tinubu noted.
The Minister also praised the dedication Lamido invested over ten years in writing the book, calling it a “labour of resilience” and encouraging other political leaders to document their experiences for posterity.
Drawing similarities between the two statesmen, Idris said Tinubu and Lamido share a deep commitment to truth, justice, and the welfare of all Nigerians.
“President Tinubu remains committed to guiding Nigeria toward economic growth and stability despite the many challenges,” he said.
On national security, Tinubu reassured Nigerians that his government will continue to safeguard lives and defend the country’s sovereignty, commending the military for their steadfast service.
Idris further pointed to the administration’s recent tax reforms aimed at enhancing revenue without placing undue strain on citizens.
Welcoming public feedback, Tinubu emphasized his openness to dialogue, while asserting his resolve.
“Constructive criticism is welcome at all times, in the spirit of freedom of speech and democratic engagement,” he said, “but I will never allow myself to be distracted.”
