Several members of the Kano State delegation returning from the National Sports Festival in Ogun have tragically lost their lives in a fatal accident.
According to reports, the vehicle carrying 35 passengers veered off and plunged from a bridge in Kura Local Government Area after the team concluded their events in Ogun State.
A survivor of the crash, Ado Salisu Gama, said that some of the victims died instantly, while others were taken to the Kura General Hospital for treatment.
Speaking from the hospital on Saturday morning, he said: “22 people have been confirmed dead at Dakatsalle bridge, just before Kura. The driver too is dead. As I speak with you, one other member just died.”
Still visibly shaken, Ado Salisu added that those hospitalized are currently receiving medical attention.
The deceased include athletes, journalists, medical staff, and team officials.
As the situation continues to unfold, it has been reported that some members of the contingent, which secured 29 medals at the festival, are among those who passed away.
