Netflix has officially announced the release dates for Building the Band, a new reality talent show featuring the late Liam Payne in one of his final TV appearances.
Liam Payne, the former One Direction star, tragically passed away in October 2024 at the age of 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The show had already completed filming before his death, but its future was uncertain until now.
According to Deadline, Building the Band will debut in three batches on Netflix:
- July 9: Episodes 101–104
- July 16: Episodes 105–107
- July 23: Episodes 108–110
Netflix confirmed that Liam Payne’s family had reviewed the series and supported its release and his appearance in it.
The reality series features Nicole Scherzinger, fresh off her Tony Award win, and Destiny’s Child star Kelly Rowland as co-judges and mentors. The show is hosted by Backstreet Boys member AJ McLean.
Produced by Remarkable Entertainment and Banijay UK, Building the Band offers a fresh twist on talent shows. Contestants perform from individual booths and must form bands based solely on musical compatibility, chemistry, and merit—without seeing one another. Only after bands are formed do the performers meet in person and work on choreography, style, and visuals.
The official show description promises “incredible performances, compelling drama, and one big goal — to find the next great music band.”
Building the Band is expected to be both a moving tribute to Liam Payne and an exciting addition to Netflix’s lineup of music competition series.
