Hamza Al-Mustapha Declares Intention to Run for President in 2027

Hamza Al-Mustapha Hints at Untold Truth Behind June 12, Says 'Public Doesn't Know the Full Story'

Retired Major Hamza Al-Mustapha has declared that he will contest in Nigeria’s 2027 presidential elections, stating that his ambition this time is genuine and not just a test of the waters.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, Al-Mustapha discussed a range of national issues, including democracy, insecurity, poverty, and his tenure as the former Chief Security Officer to late Head of State, General Sani Abacha.

“God willing, I only tested it, but this time I’m serious about running,” he said.

He also disclosed that he has begun engaging international observers to ensure stricter monitoring of Nigeria’s elections, alleging that in past elections, results were often manipulated.

“That is why we have discussed with foreign countries, asking them to closely monitor Nigeria, especially regarding the elections, because election results are usually written,” Al-Mustapha stated.

On forming or joining political alliances, he ruled out any alignment with ideologies that contradict his principles.

“If their ideology is different from ours, then I don’t want to be part of something shameful that would bring dishonor to the country with my involvement,” he said.

Asked whether he might support another candidate, such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Al-Mustapha firmly responded, “There is no possibility of our paths crossing politically, so there’s no need for that question.”

Al-Mustapha previously contested the presidency in 2019 and 2023 but was unsuccessful in both attempts.
