President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a strong directive to Nigeria’s top security officials, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible for the latest wave of violent attacks and killings in Benue State.
During a high-level stakeholders meeting at the Benue Government House in Makurdi, the President openly expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of arrests following the gruesome murders that have rocked communities in the state.
“Police, I hope your men are on alert to listen to information. How come no arrest has been made? I expect there should be an arrest of those criminals,” Tinubu firmly questioned, addressing Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and other security leaders present.
The President also charged the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, alongside the heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, to intensify efforts in tracking the perpetrators.
“Keep our ears to the ground, let’s get those criminals, let’s get them out,” Tinubu stressed, urging the security hierarchy to act swiftly and decisively.
In addition, the President directed the Directors-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the State Security Service (SSS) to overhaul and improve their intelligence-gathering mechanisms to prevent such atrocities from recurring.
“DG NIA, DG SSS, retool your information channels and let’s have tangible intelligence so that this will not occur again,” he said.
Tinubu’s visit comes in the wake of widespread outrage over the brutal killings of hundreds in multiple Benue communities by armed assailants. The President’s strong stance is expected to trigger urgent military and intelligence operations aimed at restoring peace to the embattled state.
