Seyi Awolowo, reality TV personality and grandson of Nigerian statesman Obafemi Awolowo, has shared how carrying his iconic surname is both a privilege and a weighty responsibility.

In a chat with Sunday Scoop, the Big Brother Naija alumnus revealed that the Awolowo legacy has profoundly shaped his career journey.

“Carrying the Awolowo name is both a blessing and a responsibility,” Seyi said. “Doors have opened for me because of the legacy, but silent expectations also follow. I’ve learned that legacy gives you a platform, but character earns your place.”

Reflecting on career setbacks, the media personality admitted that rejection is tough but has taught him resilience.

“Rejection is not failure but redirection. This industry will test your patience and identity, but every ‘no’ has helped me sharpen my craft and reaffirm my purpose,” he added.

Seyi credited his mother for giving him life-changing advice.

“My mum told me, ‘Your name will take you places, but your character and how you treat people will keep you there.’ That advice has influenced how I interact with fans, colleagues, and business partners,” he shared.

He stressed that humility and authenticity remain key to building longevity in the entertainment space.

“I stay grounded by surrounding myself with real people, holding on to my values, and remembering that true success is built on resilience—not fleeting relevance,” Seyi concluded.
