Pay-TV giant MultiChoice Nigeria has announced a massive 50% price cut on its DStv decoder, reducing the cost from N20,000 to N10,000 in a bold move aimed at reversing subscriber losses and boosting market appeal amid tough economic times.
The company also introduced a free subscription upgrade offer tagged “We Got You”, which runs from June 16 to July 31, 2025. During this period, any customer who pays their current package in full will be automatically upgraded to the next higher tier, unlocking more channels and exclusive content at no extra cost.
The dual offer follows the company’s admission that it lost 1.4 million subscribers between March 2023 and March 2025, primarily due to economic hardship nationwide.
“We understand the economic pressure many Nigerians are under, and this campaign is about giving back,” said John Ugbe, CEO of MultiChoice Nigeria. “We’re rewarding loyalty and making quality entertainment more affordable for every household.”
In an official statement, MultiChoice emphasized that the goal of the promo is to increase content discovery across genres like movies, drama, sports, kids’ entertainment, and news, while positioning DStv as a platform for everyday value—not just big match days.
The company stressed that the automatic upgrade applies to both active and returning customers, ensuring that even those reconnecting after a break enjoy added value.
“This means more channels, more shows, and more reasons to tune in every day,” the company said.
The campaign is expected to draw in new customers and re-engage existing ones, as MultiChoice fights to retain its dominance in Nigeria’s evolving PayTV market.
