Brentford director of football Phil Giles has suggested that Bryan Mbeumo could stay at the club next season — unless potential suitors like Manchester United meet the club’s asking price.
Mbeumo, who netted 20 Premier League goals last season, is reportedly eager to join United, favouring the move over a potential reunion with ex-Brentford boss Thomas Frank at Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite having just one year left on his contract, Brentford is prepared to hold firm, even at the risk of losing the Cameroon international for free in 2026.
“It is not impossible he is still a Brentford player next season,” Giles told BBC Sport. “If it’s not the right deal, why would we do it?”
United are said to have had two bids rejected, and are expected to return with an improved third offer. But Giles remained clear on the club’s stance:
“He is certainly one of our best players — if not the best — and we need our best players. There’s no harm in keeping your best players.”
Key Takeaways:
-
Manchester United lead the race for Mbeumo, but their bids have fallen short so far.
-
Brentford are open to keeping him, especially if valuation isn’t met.
-
Mbeumo has 12 months left on his contract, raising pressure to sell or extend.
The ball is now in United’s court, as Brentford make it clear they won’t sell on the cheap — even with the clock ticking.
