South African influencer and DJ Cyan Boujee has finally addressed the backlash surrounding a viral wig giveaway gone wrong, insisting the situation was simply a mix-up, not a deliberate snub.
The controversy erupted after a TikTok user, @certified_thimna, posted a video revealing the poor condition of a wig she received as part of a giveaway hosted by Cyan Boujee. The fan expressed disappointment and frustration, sparking a wave of criticism online.
Speaking in a candid interview with Lasizwe, Cyan set the record straight, revealing that the wrong wig had been sent out unintentionally.
She explained that the task of preparing the wigs had been delegated to her personal assistant and her brother.
“Cyan does not do things on her own. I have a PA and a brother who help me do things,” she said.
“So I had about 15 wigs that needed to be washed. Unfortunately, the wrong one got to the clout-seeking one.”
While taking full accountability for the error, Cyan criticized the fan for airing her grievance online instead of reaching out privately.
“It’s not like I said ‘this wig must go to that specific person.’ It was a genuine error,” she said.
“The fan’s decision to go public was clearly driven by attention.”
Public Reaction
The situation has reignited conversations on influencer giveaways, transparency, and the importance of quality control. While some fans sympathized with Cyan’s explanation, others questioned the professionalism of delegating such tasks without thorough checks.
Despite the backlash, Cyan Boujee appears unbothered and focused, using the opportunity to reinforce the reality of working in the public eye: even small mistakes can turn into viral storms.
