Ex-Benue Governor Gabriel Suswam Joins ADC, Calls It a Credible Alternative Ahead of 2027

Gabriel Suswam Joins ADC

Former Benue State governor, Gabriel Suswam, has officially announced his decision to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the party as a fresh and credible platform to rebuild Nigeria’s opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Suswam announced on Tuesday during a strategic meeting with senior members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Makurdi residence of Terngu Tsegba, the Chairman of the Benue State Steering Committee of the National Coalition Movement.

“ADC Belongs to the People Now” – Suswam

Addressing the gathering, which included five political elders from each of Benue’s 23 local government areas, Suswam emphasized the need for a people-driven political movement capable of standing up to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“In the same way PDP was handed to the local people, the ADC is hereby given to the people for full ownership. It is now their platform,” he declared.

He described the ADC as a vehicle for inclusive political participation and a renewed opposition coalition, offering Nigerians a real alternative rooted in unity, purpose, and grassroots empowerment.

No Political Imposition, Just Genuine Choice

Suswam cautioned against the old politics of imposition and coercion, urging political actors and leaders to allow citizens to make free and voluntary decisions about party affiliation.

“Joining the ADC is a matter of choice, not by coercion,” he stated, reiterating his belief in democratic inclusion and grassroots involvement.

A Call to Reignite the Spirit of the Old PDP

Recalling the days when the PDP was a dominant and people-centered party, Suswam encouraged stakeholders to revive that same energy, passion, and unity that once delivered significant electoral victories across Nigeria.

“This new platform offers a fresh opportunity to build a strong and united opposition,” he said.

ADC Prepares for Official Launch in Benue

The meeting also served as part of the preparatory activities for the official launch of the ADC in Benue State. With influential political figures rallying around the party, the ADC is positioning itself as a serious contender in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
