Iyabo Ojo Responds to Accusations in Mohbad Case, Reveals Threats and Ongoing Police Investigation

I was young when I fell out of my marriage, if I was this wiser, it wouldn’t end that way – Iyabo Ojo

Popular Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has broken her silence following viral videos showing men parading her photo alongside that of late singer Mohbad, accusing her of obstructing justice and cursing her in public.

The videos, which surfaced in recent days, show some individuals marching through the streets of Lagos with placards and photos, alleging Iyabo was interfering in the ongoing calls for justice over Mohbad’s death.

One man went as far as claiming that the recent fire that gutted Ojo’s office in Lekki was only the beginning of what he said would be a series of misfortunes for her and her family.

In a detailed public statement posted to Instagram, Iyabo Ojo addressed the allegations and explained that she had recently been invited by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja over petitions accusing her of falsely linking certain individuals to the singer’s death.

“I Never Accused Anyone” — Iyabo Ojo

“I never affirmed that Mohbad’s death was caused by any specific individual,” Ojo wrote. “I was simply reacting emotionally to disturbing videos circulating at the time and used my platform to call for justice.”

She clarified that her actions through her NGO, Pinkies Foundation, included writing to top government officials—including the Lagos State Governor, the Attorney General, and the Commissioner of Police—calling for a coroner’s inquest and comprehensive police investigation.

Ojo maintained that she acted within the law and did not influence or direct the investigation’s course, stating:

“I can not dictate how the police should conduct their investigations.”

Threats, Hate Campaigns, and Election Fallout

Ojo also alleged she has been the target of death threats, hate messages, and harassment since speaking up on Mohbad’s case. She revealed that shortly before her daughter’s wedding in Tanzania, she received a handwritten threat letter warning she would face hell in three months.

“It is not surprising to now see coffins inscribed with my name, barefaced videos threatening my life and properties,” she wrote. “My family and business enterprise remain endangered.”

She linked much of the hostility to her political opinions during the 2023 elections, which she believes have attracted sponsored attacks and vendettas.

Recent Office Fire and Ongoing Cooperation with Police

The actress also touched on the fire that destroyed her office building in Lekki, describing it as a traumatic event. She asked for space to deal with the emotional and physical toll, while reaffirming her willingness to continue cooperating with the police.

“My office was recently destroyed by fire. It is only humane to allow me the emotional space and time to tend to my health and wellbeing.”

A Plea for Empathy and Rule of Law

Despite the personal and public challenges, Iyabo Ojo expressed gratitude to supporters, law enforcement, and well-wishers, ending her statement with a declaration of faith.

“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but God will deliver me from them all… I trust that God will ultimately give me victory over adversity.”
