Vice President Kashim Shettima has paid a condolence visit to Aisha Buhari, widow of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at a hospital in London.
Shettima, who is in the United Kingdom leading a Federal Government delegation for the repatriation of Buhari’s remains, also met with the former president’s children to offer condolences on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Official Confirmation & Details of the Visit
The visit was confirmed in a statement issued by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media & Communications. The statement noted that the vice president also visited Mamman Daura, Buhari’s nephew, who is currently hospitalized and recuperating in London.
“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, upon arrival in London, met with and condoled with the family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari,” the statement read.
“The Vice President also visited the late President’s nephew, Malam Mamman Daura, who is recuperating in a London hospital.”
Photos from the visit show Shettima consoling a visibly grieving Aisha Buhari and other family members as arrangements for the return of Buhari’s body to Nigeria continue.

The delegation is overseeing all logistics and diplomatic procedures needed for the late president’s repatriation.
Burial Plans
According to the Vice President’s office, Muhammadu Buhari will be laid to rest on Tuesday in Daura, his hometown in Katsina State, in line with Islamic burial rites.
The late president is survived by his wife, Aisha Buhari, and eight children.
