Just hours after publicly announcing his decision to stop managing Nigerian music star Omah Lay, former manager Muyiwa Awoniyi has dropped a bombshell, revealing explosive details behind the split—and taking direct aim at an unnamed critic.
In a sharp response to a now-viral tweet mocking his initial announcement, Awoniyi wrote:
“I agreed to manage Omah to get him out of the very slave deal that you signed. Now he is out, I also am out. You on the other hand are a slave.”
The tweet, posted on July 25, 2025, was in direct reply to a jab from industry personality @kaestyle__, who sarcastically said:
“Dem sack you, you say I’m no longer… lol always quick to go on social media.”
Awoniyi’s clapback suggests there may have been far more tension and internal politics behind the scenes than fans initially realized.
He claims his role in Omah Lay’s career was rooted in helping the artist escape an unfavorable contract—described as a “slave deal”—implying exploitative industry practices.
This revelation paints a deeper, more nuanced picture of the music industry, and could spark broader discussions about artist management, label contracts, and creative freedom in Nigeria’s burgeoning Afrobeats scene.
At the time of writing, Omah Lay has remained silent on the issue, neither confirming nor refuting the claims made by his former manager.
