Veteran Fuji icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has finally addressed the controversy surrounding his recent clash with airport officials in Abuja, tendering an unreserved apology and clarifying the events that led to the drama.

In a statement released on Friday, the 67-year-old singer explained that the incident with ValueJet Airlines at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport was the result of a misunderstanding over a flask he carried during security checks.

According to K1, the flask contained only water, not alcohol, as widely speculated. He revealed that he suffers from chronic dehydration and had been medically advised to remain hydrated at all times.

The singer stated that the flask was empty during initial screenings and was only filled with water at the airport lounge before being taken to the tarmac, a detail he claimed could be verified through CCTV footage.

“I acknowledge and deeply regret the concerns that arose from the incident. It was never my intention to cause any disruption or violate aviation protocols in any way,” he stated.

K1 further expressed regret for any distress caused and emphasized that he has never intended to tarnish his five-decade-long career or the image of Nigeria, which he has promoted globally through his music.

He extended his apology to the Presidency, Ministry of Aviation, FAAN, NCAA, ValueJet, and his fans worldwide, reaffirming his commitment to upholding the values of a cultural ambassador.

The apology comes after the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) imposed a six-month domestic flight ban on the singer, accusing him of endangering lives by obstructing an aircraft during taxiing — a sanction that has sparked widespread public debate.
