FC Barcelona has officially requested UEFA to allow them to play their opening fixture of the upcoming Champions League phase away from home.
The club does not want to host a match at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys (Montjuïc) until the second matchday on 30 September or 1 October.
While UEFA traditionally does not grant such scheduling requests, there is reported optimism within Barcelona that their plea might be considered.
The request is linked to the club’s ongoing stadium transition. With the Spotify Camp Nou still under renovation, Barcelona is using Montjuïc as its temporary home ground until at least February 2026.
The club wants additional time to ensure preparations at the stadium are complete before welcoming European opponents.
The full UEFA Champions League league phase schedule will be released on 30 August, which will confirm whether Barcelona’s request is granted.
