Sam Asghari has addressed Britney Spears’s recent comments that their marriage “felt like a fake distraction.”
Over the weekend, the Toxic hitmaker opened up on Instagram about her struggles during their relationship, which lasted from June 2022 until May 2024. In her candid post, the 43-year-old revealed her “secret to survival” in the marriage was “denial and a lot of tears,” adding that it almost felt like “a fake distraction to help me deal with it.”
In response, Sam Asghari told People on Monday that his feelings for Britney were genuine. “Our marriage was very real to me. It may have been short, but we were together for seven years. I was in love with her, will always have love for her, and wish her the best always.”
Britney, who shares two sons, Sean (19) and Jayden (18), with ex-husband Kevin Federline, was estranged from her children following the end of her conservatorship in November 2021. However, recent social media updates suggest she is now on better terms with them.
The pop icon first met Sam Asghari on the set of her 2016 Slumber Party music video. Although the pair split in July 2023, the 31-year-old model-actor has acknowledged that their relationship had a lasting impact on his life. Speaking to Page Six Radio in June, he admitted: “I can’t sit here and lie and say, ‘It wasn’t good for me.’ When you’re in such a public relationship… it sort of gave me that platform for who I am.”
