Legendary juju musician Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi has once again dismissed rumours of his death, just five months after quashing a similar claim.
The 83-year-old music icon took to Instagram on Sunday with a video of himself and his sons singing “I have a God who never fails” before directly addressing the fresh speculation.
“People of God, ladies and gentlemen, the enemies have come again. I left Lagos this morning to London, and I arrived London few hours ago and on arrival, I saw the video that announced again that my ‘enemy’ was dead, my enemy had a stroke and all the lies they are speaking. They even carried coffins and showed several photographs. Everything they have said is nothing but lies,” Obey said.
Reassuring his fans, he added:
“My God is indeed in control. I left Lagos with my children. Everything they have said are nothing but lies that came from the kingdom of darkness. I am alive, I am alive says the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you very much. I don’t have stroke. I come to London to look after myself.”
This is not the first time the juju legend has had to set the record straight. In April 2025, he also released a video branding a similar report as fake news, singing in Yoruba, English, and Pidgin to stress that he was very much alive. Back in July 2020, Obey dismissed another round of death rumours, insisting he was “hale and hearty.”
Born on April 3, 1942, in Idogo, Ogun State, Ebenezer Obey is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of juju music. He rose to prominence in the 1960s with The International Brothers and later The Inter-Reformers Band before transitioning into gospel ministry in the 1990s.
