Selena Gomez has spoken candidly about the “dexterity issues” she experiences due to her ongoing health challenges.
The actress and singer, who was diagnosed with lupus and underwent a kidney transplant in 2017, explained how the autoimmune disease has affected her hands.
“I have arthritis in my fingers, and that’s due to my lupus,” Selena shared on the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast on Tuesday. “So, I remember before (launching my beauty) brand, I was trying to open a water bottle and it hurt really bad before I was on the right medication.”
Because of this, Selena Gomez ensured that all Rare Beauty products were designed with accessibility in mind.
“And we somehow inherently made the products easy to open, and then we realised, wait — they kind of have to be that way,” the 33-year-old said. “And then we started to make every product with the intention of (working for) anybody who (has) dexterity problems.”
Selena Gomez also revealed that Rare Beauty’s new perfume features an oversized pump for easier application.
“I know that might seem like a little thing, but it’s really not because it’s actually so helpful for anyone at any age to be able to use the products. And that’s why we want to make them easy and accessible, because it’s important to me and it always (has) been. So, even down to our fragrance, the pump is very easy for me to use,” Selena added.
