“Na to just carry am go chop Amala” – Nigerians React After May D Street Performance Video Surfaces

May D Street Performance Video Surfaces

Nigerian singer Akinmayokun Awodumila, popularly known as May D, has gone viral after a video of him performing on the streets of Lagos surfaced online.

In the clip, the Ile Ijo hitmaker was seen entertaining a small crowd, with some seated on plastic chairs while others stood around to watch.

The scene sparked shock and sympathy from fans, given his past fame and association with Afrobeats duo Peter and Paul Okoye, of the defunct group P-Square.

Mixed Reactions

The video triggered a wave of comments across social media:

  • “As long as he is not begging… I hope things get better for him.”

  • “Na to just carry am go chop Amala after the performance then dash am 1k for tfare.”

  • “If fall off was a person.”

  • “This is why I don’t blame Portable when he causes chaos — things like this keep him relevant. May D went quiet after P-Square.”

  • “Omo, see Lyta too. May D used to roll with Afrobeats legends, what happened to him and Lyta?”

Rise and Decline

May D, now 40, rose to stardom after signing with Square Records in 2011. He featured on the remix of Chop My Money alongside P-Square and Akon, before leaving the label in 2012.

Earlier this year, he revealed in an interview that his fallout with P-Square began after he informed them of Akon’s interest in signing him.

The singer also claimed that at one point he was “bigger than Wizkid and Davido” but admitted that certain mistakes contributed to the decline of his career.
