JUST-IN: MTN System Error Causes Debt Cancellation As Subscribers Jubilate

Telecoms giant MTN Nigeria has confirmed widespread network disruptions affecting customers in parts of Lagos State.

In a message to subscribers on Sunday evening, the company acknowledged the issue:

“Dear Customer, we’re experiencing network challenges in some parts of Lagos State, and our services may be temporarily unavailable as a result.

Our engineers are working to restore services as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

The confirmation came after hours of mounting complaints across social media, where frustrated users said they were unable to make calls, access mobile data, or complete transactions dependent on MTN’s connectivity.

On X (formerly Twitter), “MTN” quickly began trending as subscribers tagged the company, demanding urgent updates and swift solutions.

Network disruptions have become a recurring problem for telecom operators in Nigeria, often linked to poor infrastructure, vandalism, and rising energy costs.

Lagos, being the country’s commercial nerve centre, is especially sensitive to outages, as businesses, financial institutions, and individuals depend heavily on mobile data and voice services for daily operations.

MTN has not provided a timeline for full service restoration but assured customers that efforts are ongoing.
