Dangote Refinery sacks all Nigerian workers for joining trade union

JUST IN: Dangote refinery commences production

The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has terminated the employment of all its Nigerian workers, citing a company-wide “reorganisation.”

Political commentator Imran Wakili shared the development on X Wednesday, noting, “Dangote Refinery has officially laid off all of its Nigerian workers under the guise of ‘reorganization’, less than 24 hours after 90% of them joined PENGASSAN.”

According to a memo dated September 25, 2025, and signed by Chief General Manager of Human Asset Management, Femi Adekunle, the refinery said the decision followed reports of sabotage in several units of the plant.

The notice instructed affected employees to return all company property to their line managers and obtain exit clearance. The finance department was also directed to calculate benefits and entitlements for settlement in line with contractual terms.

While thanking the dismissed workers for their service, the refinery maintained the move was part of a “total re-organisation” of its operations.

Creebhills notes that the refinery has been locked in a trade dispute with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) over unionization rights.
