Andra Day Sues Former Manager for Allegedly Stealing $1.6 Million

Grammy-nominated singer Andra Day—best known for her hit single “Rise Up”—is taking her former manager, Jeff Evans, to court over allegations of financial misconduct.

According to court documents, Andra Day accuses Evans and his companies, BassLine Management and Buskin’ LLC, of stealing more than $1.6 million, money she says was meant to cover touring and housing expenses.

The Golden Globe winner claims Evans acted as “a faithless fiduciary” and was “caught red-handed” after allegedly pocketing her funds without authorization.

The legal feud escalated when Evans’ firms sued Day first, claiming she owed them unpaid royalties. In response, the 40-year-old singer filed her own countersuit the very next day, alleging theft and breach of trust.

Evans’ legal team, however, denies any wrongdoing. In a statement to PEOPLE, they said:

“Ms. Day filed a baseless lawsuit against our clients one day after our clients brought an action against Ms. Day for royalties rightfully due to them. Our clients categorically deny the allegations made against them and look forward to their day in court.”

With both sides standing firm, the dispute between Andra Day and her former manager is shaping up to be a heated courtroom showdown — one where, fittingly, the “Rise Up” star is determined to stand tall once again.
