Actor Bryton James, best known for his role as Richie Crawford on the classic sitcom Family Matters, has reportedly filed for divorce from his wife Jahaira James after just seven months of marriage.
According to TMZ, the 39-year-old actor filed legal documents on Monday in Los Angeles, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. The couple, who tied the knot in March 2025, are said to have separated in June, only three months after their wedding.
Court documents reveal that Bryton James has requested the court to terminate spousal support for both parties and asked that Jahaira revert to her maiden name once the divorce is finalized. The pair do not share any children.
Bryton, a native of Lakewood, California, rose to fame as a child actor in Family Matters, appearing in 143 episodes from 1990 to 1997 under his stage name, Bryton McClure.
He later gained further recognition for his long-running role as Devon Hamilton on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless, where he has appeared in over 1,600 episodes across three decades, earning several Daytime Emmy Awards for his performance.
This marks Bryton James’s second divorce. He was previously married to Ashley Leisinger, whom he wed in 2011 in a ceremony officiated by his The Young and the Restless co-star Christian LeBlanc. The couple separated in 2014.
Neither Bryton nor Jahaira has publicly commented on the split, but fans have expressed sadness over the news, wishing both parties peace and healing as they move forward.
