Former federal lawmaker Ben Murray-Bruce, who represented the Bayelsa East Senatorial District, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and declared his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Murray-Bruce made the announcement on Wednesday through a personally signed statement posted on his Facebook page, where he praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its bold economic and infrastructural reforms.
The businessman and politician lauded Tinubu as “the first President in our nation’s history who truly understands finance”, describing him as a leader who views the economy “not as a political slogan, but as a living organism that must be disciplined, deregulated, and allowed to breathe.”
“The painful reforms we face today are the very foundation of tomorrow’s prosperity,” he wrote. “We are moving into a free-market economy, one that rewards hard work and innovation instead of dependency and distortion.”
Murray-Bruce went on to commend several key areas of the Tinubu administration, including national security, economic stability, and infrastructure development.
“Under this administration, the appointment of the National Security Adviser has redefined our national safety architecture. Insecurity is being quietly and systematically dismantled,” he said.
“The Central Bank, now professionally steered, is stabilizing the economy, rebuilding confidence, and restoring the dignity of the naira.”
He added that Nigeria’s foreign policy is regaining respect, fuel supply has been deregulated, and the country’s infrastructural projects—from roads to ports and housing—are driving national progress.
“These developments are not just concrete and steel; they are the arteries through which growth and opportunity now flow,” he noted.
Acknowledging the current economic hardship faced by Nigerians, Murray-Bruce emphasized that reform often comes with pain but leads to rebirth.
“That is why today, I am joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), not for politics, but for progress,” he declared. “I believe that Bola Tinubu’s leadership, guided by courage and intellect, will deliver the Nigeria we have all dreamed of.”
He concluded with optimism, predicting that under President Tinubu’s eight-year tenure, Nigeria will witness “phenomenal growth.”
His defection comes shortly after Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri and his cabinet members also announced their move from the PDP to the APC, signaling a major political shift in the state’s landscape.
