Veteran actress Ngozi Nwosu has opened up about a traumatic chapter in her life, revealing that she walked away from her marriage just one day before signing the registrar after enduring severe domestic violence.
Speaking on Ayo Adesanya’s YouTube show Real Life With Aunty Ayo, the Fuji House of Commotion star described a violent incident that left her physically hurt and emotionally scarred.
“My husband is this kind of violent person. I went to the kitchen to boil water, and he broke the kitchen door. I will never forget that day till I die,” she said.
“I plaited Bob Marley, he drew me, and one strand of the attachment came out with blood. I didn’t know where I got the strength from, but I picked up a pestle. I was ready to kill him that day and go to jail. My neighbours saw me naked.”
Ngozi said she reached a breaking point and chose to leave rather than sign the marriage papers.
“When I saw the domestic violence coming from his side, I walked away a day before our marriage and refused to sign the registrar,” she recalled.
The actress urged others not to tolerate abuse, stressing that taking one instance of violence often means accepting a lifetime of it.
“Don’t fall for any man who beats you and begs you later. Once beaten twice shy. If you take it once, you just be ready to take it for the rest of your life,” she warned.
Ngozi, whose career began in the 1980s, is known for memorable roles in films and series such as Living in Bondage, Skinny Girl in Transit, and Little Drops of Happy. Her testimony adds a prominent voice to conversations about domestic violence and the difficult choices survivors face.
