Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has hinted that she might make another bid for the White House in the future.
In an interview with the BBC on Saturday, Kamala Harris said she was “not done,” adding that she could “possibly” still become president one day — her clearest indication yet of a potential third campaign for the presidency.
“I have lived my entire career as a life of service, and it’s in my bones,” Harris said.
Kamala Harris lost the 2024 presidential election to Donald Trump after President Joe Biden abruptly withdrew from the race just 107 days before Election Day.
In her recently released memoir, “107 Days,” Harris had suggested she would step away from high office for a while, expressing doubts about reforming the system from within.
“I’ll no longer sit in DC in the grandeur of the ceremonial office. I will be with the people, in towns and communities where I can listen to their ideas on how we rebuild trust, empathy, and a government worthy of the ideals of this country,” she wrote.
However, during the BBC interview, Kamala Harris struck a more optimistic tone, saying she believes her young nieces will see a female president “within their lifetime for sure.” When asked if that president could be her, she replied, “Possibly.”
Responding to polls that rank her as an outsider in a potential Democratic primary, Harris dismissed their significance.
“There are all kinds of polls that will tell you a variety of things. I’ve never listened to polls. I certainly wouldn’t be sitting here if I did,” she said.
In her memoir, Harris also reflected on Biden’s decision to seek re-election and later drop out, calling his reversal “recklessness.” She wrote that the stakes were too high to leave the future of the Democratic campaign to a purely personal choice.
The book further detailed her search for a running mate, explaining why several prominent Democrats — including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg — were ultimately not selected.
