Insecurity: Seek Help or Resign – PDP tells President Tinubu

PDP tells Tinubu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to either seek urgent assistance—locally or internationally—or resign from office, following the resurgence of violent attacks and mass abductions of school children across northern states.

Speaking at a weekend press conference in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said the recent kidnappings in Kebbi, Niger, and Kwara States expose the Tinubu administration’s inability to manage Nigeria’s deteriorating security crisis.

Ememobong accused Tinubu of failing in his constitutional duty to safeguard the lives and property of citizens, insisting that the situation has reached an alarming point.

“The security of lives and property is the primary function of any government. At any time a government is unwilling, unable, or incapable of performing this role, such a government must either ask for help—locally or internationally—or honourably resign,” he said.

The PDP spokesperson also condemned the decision by some state governments and the Federal Government to temporarily shut down schools in response to the attacks, describing it as a capitulation to terrorists.

He expressed concern that despite multiple abductions occurring within a single week, the Federal Government has yet to offer a coordinated, decisive response. According to him, the presidency’s approach to the crisis has been “slow, unempathetic, and politically motivated.”

“More troubling is the fact that when these unfortunate incidents occur, the administration’s response is usually lacklustre and void of empathy,” Ememobong added.
“Instead of the President visiting Kebbi and Niger States to meet with families of abducted children and address security personnel on ground, he merely directed the Minister of State for Defence to relocate to Kebbi.”

The party maintained that Nigerians deserve leadership that prioritizes their safety and responds swiftly to national emergencies, urging the Federal Government to act before the situation worsens further.
