Gov. Alex Otti Visits Nnamdi Kanu in Sokoto Prison

Nnamdi Kanu will regain freedom in no distant future — Otti

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, on Sunday paid a visit to the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Correctional Centre.

The visit was confirmed by Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, and his younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, in separate Facebook posts.

Ejimakor expressed gratitude to the governor for keeping to his word, writing:

“Thank you for fulfilling the promise you made to me to visit your brother, MAZI NNAMDI KANU. You’re a man of your words and gutsy to boot. May God bless you. And may your august visit to Sokoto today be the first step to ending this undeserved ordeal, sooner than later.”

Emmanuel Kanu also hailed the visit, saying it sent “a unified statement” from Governor Otti and the people of Sokoto.

Governor Otti had previously stated his commitment to securing Kanu’s release following the IPOB leader’s sentencing to life imprisonment. According to him, a strategy had long been in motion—even from the period of Kanu’s trial—to achieve his eventual freedom.

The governor’s latest visit is now seen as a renewed step in that direction.
