Tony Elumelu Cancels 2025 All-White Christmas Party to Honour Victims of Afriland Tower Fire

Tony Elumelu - Estimated Net Worth $1.4 Billion

Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Tony Elumelu, has cancelled the 2025 edition of his famous all-white Christmas party in honour of the victims of the Afriland Tower fire that occurred on September 16.

At least 10 people lost their lives in the tragic incident, which happened at the Afriland Tower building on Broad Street, Lagos, leaving several others injured.

Elumelu’s all-white party, held every December, is one of the most anticipated events during Lagos’ “Detty December” festive season. The annual celebration typically brings together top entertainers, business leaders, and political figures for a night of luxury, networking, and entertainment.

Past editions have featured electrifying performances by music heavyweights including Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal and Flavour.
Celebrity attendees have included movie stars Richard Mofe-Damijo, Genevieve Nnaji, Osas Ighodaro, Mercy Eke, Toke Makinwa, Banky W, Adesua Etomi and Sharon Ooja.

The gathering also attracts some of Nigeria’s most influential leaders. Previous guests include Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Dapo Abiodun, Sheriff Oborevwori and AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, alongside business moguls Aliko Dangote, Abdul Samad Rabiu, Wale Tinubu, Valentine Ozigbo, Gabriel Ogbechie and Stanley Uzochukwu.

However, in an Instagram post on Monday night, Elumelu announced that this year’s edition will not hold.

He wrote:
“We’ve received so many messages from friends asking about our annual TOE All-White Party on 23rd December. Your excitement and tradition mean the world to us.

“However, due to the recent tragic fire incident that claimed precious lives, Awele and I have made the decision to cancel the party this year.

“This season will be dedicated to remembering, honouring, and holding space for those we lost. They remain forever in our hearts.

“We look forward to opening our home to you again with love, laughter, and togetherness on 23rd December 2026 by God’s grace. Until then, thank you for your understanding and kindness.

“Wishing you and your loved ones a peaceful and beautiful Christmas. Merry Christmas.”

The cancellation marks a rare pause in a Lagos social tradition, as Elumelu chooses reflection and remembrance over celebration this festive season.
