Former Anambra Governor Chris Ngige Arrested by EFCC in Abuja

Former Governor of Anambra State and ex-Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.

According to reports, armed EFCC officials picked up Ngige from his residence on Justice Mohammed Bello Road in Abuja on Wednesday. Earlier rumours suggested he had been kidnapped, but his media aide, Fred Chukwuelobe, dismissed the claims and confirmed he was in EFCC custody.

“Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details later,” Chukwuelobe said.

The EFCC has not yet released an official statement, and the reason for Ngige’s arrest remains unclear as of the time of filing this report.

This incident follows closely after an attack on Ngige’s convoy in Anambra State, where armed men ambushed his vehicles. A police officer was shot, and several others were injured. Ngige was reportedly not in the vehicle at the time of the attack.
