#End SARS: Lai Mohammed Denies Knowledge of Live Ammunition Use at Lekki Toll Gate

Lai Mohammed Mourns Buhari’s Death

Former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said he was not aware that soldiers used live bullets on protesters during the 2020 #EndSARS demonstrations at the Lekki toll gate.

Speaking on Monday during Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Mohammed maintained that, to his knowledge, troops deployed to the area were issued blank ammunition. He said he remained in constant contact with the Chief of Army Staff and the Chief of Defence Staff throughout the operation.

According to him, there was no massacre at the Lekki toll gate, insisting that reports of protesters being shot dead were driven by misinformation and fake news. Mohammed argued that the main actors involved in the incident are still alive and questioned claims of fatalities, asking for anyone who could confirm the death of a relative at the scene.

His comments come amid continued controversy over the events of October 2020, when reports and eyewitness accounts alleged that soldiers fired live rounds at peaceful protesters during the #EndSARS protests.
