The Nigeria Police Force has announced the resumption of enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy, citing growing security concerns across the country.
In a statement issued on December 15 by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police said enforcement would resume on January 2, 2026, noting that there is no court order restraining the Force from implementing existing laws on tinted glass usage.
The police explained that although the matter is still before the court, enforcement was only suspended earlier in the interest of transparency and to give motorists sufficient time to regularise their documents without pressure.
Hundeyin disclosed that recent security assessments revealed a surge in criminal activities involving vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass, which are allegedly used by criminals to conceal their identities while committing offences such as armed robbery and kidnapping.
According to the statement, the renewed enforcement is aimed at curbing the misuse of tinted glass and enhancing public safety nationwide.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured Nigerians that the exercise would be carried out professionally, with respect for citizens’ rights and in line with existing laws, while reaffirming the Force’s commitment to maintaining security and the rule of law.
Motorists who require tinted glass permits were advised to apply through approved channels and ensure their vehicles fully comply with legal requirements ahead of the enforcement date.
